Summer 2008
After two and a half years as President, I
would like to review some of the Chamber accomplishments.
We had a very successful “TASTE OF GREAT
NECK” where over 450 people attended and enjoyed the culinary delights of
our Great Neck restaurants on the lawn and in the Officers’ Club, Melville
Hall, of the United States Merchant Marine Academy. It was so successful
that we are planning another “Taste” in early June 2009.
We had a very exciting and innovative “speed
networking” event in March of 2008 and all who attended were extremely
pleased with the number of people
they met. Attendees indicated to us that they also had fun participating in
the
event.
For the first time at our awards dinner in
January we presented a Journal
which honored our awardees and served as a fundraiser for the Chamber. The
Chamber was well represented and we had an overwhelming attendance.
This is the second year of our newsletter
magazine, the “S.I.G.N. Post.” This
publication is our laison between our members, the business community and
Chamber functions and events. It’s printed bi-monthly and we welcome your
articles and news.
Our Business Enhancement Committee is writing
letters to reach out to businesses that should consider opening a location
in Great Neck. We are going to post local properties that are for sale or
rent in Great Neck on our website.
We are also going to offer our members the
opportunity to post a business
event or job listing on our website which we are planning to update daily.
We look forward to all of our members taking advantage of this wonderful
opportunity.
We have volunteers staffing the kiosk. Also,
brick forms are available for anyone
interested in purchasing a brick. Stop by with any questions, to obtain
information or to just say hello!
Through a fundraiser, we provided chairs to
the Great Neck Senior Center.
The Chamber provided funding for new litter
cans in the Village of Great Neck
Plaza. Look for our name on the litter cans!
We are working with all the Villages to
enhance business and commerce in
Great Neck. If you open a new business in Great Neck, we encourage you to
contact the Chamber and we will be glad to set up a ribbon cutting for you
to introduce you to our community.
We encourage all businesses, retail stores
and professionals to join the Great
Neck Chamber of Commerce. We are here to assist you, and your participation
and cooperation will strengthen and expand our community.
I look forward to the balance of 2008 and a
productive 2009. I welcome all your suggestions and ideas. Help us keep
Great Neck GREAT!!! Please feel free to contact me at
vlink@greatneckchamber.org.
